Croyde holiday 2007 – Day 5

Day 5 Wednesday 13/06/07

Starting early in the morning (because the sun came up at about 5) we got up at about 8 and found that the fire was still burning and needed to be put out. We went back to the house and collected some of the others for a swim. By the time we got to the beach it was raining hard and we must have looked pretty stupid in our swimming costumes but there weren’t many people on the beach to see us.

The rest of the day was spend in the house reading and playing games as the weather remained pretty crap. After lunch I took Anne and Kat to the station in Barnstaple for their journey home.

In the evening the weather picked up enough for us to cook dinner on the barbecue again.

After dinner there was a spectacular sunset and those of us who fancy ourselves as good photographers headed down towards the sea to take pictures.  On the way home we were distracted by a crunching sound underfoot. Looking down we saw an extraordinary number of snails making a b-line for our neighbour’s garden. Lance and I stopped to document their destruction of the plants.

When we got back to the house we found everyone in the living room watching the final of The Apprentice (the only time the television was on all week). Naturally we immediately derided them for their sadness. However, we then remembered that we had just got back from photographing snails and discussing whether or not they may have been having sex. We reached the conclusion that Lizzie was the only person who redeemed themselves by neither watching TV nor taking pictures of gastropods.
