Kevin’s 30th was a very posh affair. We were all instructed to dress smart and to come prepared to talk about grown up things such as children, schools and mortgages. In case we were lost for topics of conversation bowls full of suggestions were thoughtfully provided. By the end of the evening we had invented a complex web of interwoven relationships, children, step-children, divorces, affairs, housing portfolios, bankruptcy, divorce, arguments over “good” schools and the cost of uniforms and many other things that we felt “adult” enough. Of course there was a significant amount of childish behaviour as well including, but not limited to posing toy figures in rude positions, balancing inappropriate things on our heads, childish drinking games etc.
